In 1994, the company announced the 993. Produced for only a few years, the 993 proved to be the last of the air-cooled Porsches. In comparison to the 964, the 993’s most obvious changes were its headlamps and fenders along with increased power (which was later increased further with the ‘Varioram’ intake). Introduced in 1995 for the 1996 model year, the 993-generation 911 Carrera 4S combined the Turbo’s wider bodywork, brakes, and suspension with the all wheel drive Carrera 4’s drivetrain and an increased output of 282hp. Produced in only limited quantities, the Carrera 4S offered the perfect mid-point between the standard Carrera and the Turbo.
